ELECTIONS FOR SPRING 2020 OPEN NOW !

Manager(s) (1-4)

  • (Requires at least 2 semesters in any position… organization, time-management, and management/facilitation skills/experience highly recommended)
  • To call and run all club and board meetings.
  • To coordinate all aspects of the radio show operations.
  • To schedule community/club events, and assign portions of the planning and implementation of said operations & events to team.
  • To act as a liaison between the club as well as the administrative and faculty branches of Skidmore.
  • To work alongside the Hosts in creating guest lineups for each season.
  • To attend all Presidents Council meetings.
  • To maintain ties with outside agencies and determine the nature of such ties with Pass the Mic.
  • To assist other board members.
  • To oversee outreach & training for new board members each semester/year.

Current Hosts:

HostS (2)

  • (Requires at least 1 semester as Assistant Host)
  • To conduct interviews that are broadcasted live on WSPN and shared online.
  • To conduct pre-interviews with upcoming guests in preparation for episodes.
  • To conduct debriefs after episodes with the guest and life team to receive feedback.
  • To work alongside the Manager(s) in creating guest lineups for each season.
  • To mentor and direct the Assistant Hosts in their role.
  • To create “outlines” for upcoming episodes (simple plans for the format of the episode).
  • To attend WSPN “big meeting” in the beginning of the semester with the DJ and Assistant Hosts.
  • To attend WSPN training and be comfortable with all radio equipment.

Assistant Hosts (2-4)

  • (No eligibility requirements… demonstrable public speaking/hosting skills a plus)
  • To assist the Hosts in all aspects of their work.
  • To gradually take up jobs from the Hosts in order to gain experience in the position.
  • Initiate “Exclusive Content” interviews with Skidmore community members and wider audience.
  • To attend WSPN training and be comfortable with all radio equipment.

** POSITION OPEN FOR NEW APPLICANTS!

  • (Requires some level of familiarity with any audio-editing software)
  • To edit episodes on a weekly basis to be shared online shortly after live broadcast.
  • To communicate with the Hosts and ensure no parts of the episode should be removed before airing online.
  • To communicate with the Music Director for community music to be featured in during breaks.

Radio DJ

** POSITION OPEN FOR NEW APPLICANTS!

  • (No eligibility requirements… prior WSPN experience a plus)
  • To play clean music and transition in/out of breaks during live WSPN show.
  • To attend WSPN “big meeting” in the beginning of the semester with the Hosts and Assistant Hosts.
  • To attend WSPN training and be comfortable with all radio equipment.
  • To log music played through WSPN, and follow other WSPN rules.
  • To communicate with the Music-Outreach Coordinator about student music to showcase live.

  • (Requires familiarity with cameras and/or recording equipment… relationship with MDOCS department and/or Media Services highly-recommended)
  • Record live shows and necessary events.
  • To bring personal camera any additional film equipment (tripods, mics) to every show.
  • To initiate relationship with Media Services, if a camera gear is not already owned.
  • To initiate creative visual content for social media and website.

Music director

  • (No eligibility requirements… musicians, or people with demonstrable outreach/engagement skills a plus)
  • To initiate relationships with on-campus artists.
  • To build on an expansive music library, accessible for the DJ and Editor(s).
  • To initiate diverse strategies to draw in musicians.
  • To pass-on music library to next Music Director.

  • (Requires visual art experience… preferably digital art, but flexible)
  • To formulate posters, flyers, social media content, and other promotional content.
  • To work on design assignments given by the Managers.
  • To facilitate relationships with community artists.

Social media director

** SOCIAL MEDIA ASSISTANT ROLE OPEN NOW!

  • (No eligibility requirements… work experience, or examples of successful social media projects a plus)
  • To manage Pass the Mic’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
  • To record and share live-streams during live episodes.
  • To share episodes in social media posts on a consistent time and day every week.
  • To brainstorm social media strategies to engage our audience.
  • To keep track of success of certain posts, our target audiences, etc.
  • To draft descriptions and titles for new episodes on Soundcloud.

** WEBMASTER ASSISTANT ROLE OPEN NOW!

  • (No eligibility requirements… website/Google Sites experience a plus)
  • To manage and upkeep website and Soundcloud.
  • To add information about board members to website.
  • To organize and share each episode and their descriptions on website.
  • Co-manage Off the Record, our online writing platform.
  • To brainstorm innovative ideas for website, and work with other board members.
  • To assist and insert the Social Media Director’s descriptions and titles for new episodes on Soundcloud.

Treasurer:

** ASSISTANT TREASURER ROLE OPEN NOW!

  • (No eligibility requirements… financial/club experience a plus)
  • To assist the Manager(s) in preparing a club budget according to the funds appropriated by SGA.
  • To keep and update an accurate record of club finances.
  • To provide the managers with a report on club finances after major events.
  • To determine/estimate cost of proposed events and other projects.
  • To deposit funds generated by club events.
  • To act as a liaison to the SGA V.P. for Financial Affairs.
  • To assist other club officers.
  • To attend all Pass the Mic board meetings.

** POSITION OPEN FOR NEW APPLICANTS!

  • (Requires familiarity with producing high quality audio recordings and working with basic audio recording equipment… relationship with MDOCS department and/or Media Services highly-recommended..This role can be occupied by any of the current Photographer/Videographer, Editor, or Live DJ positions)
  • Record live shows, exclusive interviews, episode debriefs, and additional broadcast/ recorded events
  • To handle bringing, setting up, and monitoring the audio recording equipment during every show.
  • To initiate relationship with Media Services, if a recorder, external mics, xlr cables, etc are not already owned.
