international career
Catley made her international debut at 18 in a friendly, and eventually made the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup roster where she played every minuite and won every tackle before their loss to the United States. Catley then played in the 2016 Olympics and the 2019 World Cup where she kept playing despite breaking her hand in a game against Jamaica. Catley will be playing in her third Olympics after Tokyo 2020. She has played as "vice-captain" but will take on the role of captain on the international stage this summer.

Coming off of a home World Cup last summer, Sam Kerr was expected to lead the Matildas to gold, but an ACL tear leves her to cheer the team on an have long time teammate Steph Catley take over the band. Catley was born in Melbourne, and by age 6, was the only girl playing on a team with her brothers and other boys. She just wanted to make herself the best she could be, a mentality that has continued to guide her since.
Club Career
Catley began playing with her hometown MElbourne Victory at the age of 15 but then headed across the Pacific to the Portland Thorns in 2014. Catley then played two seasons back in Melbourne with Melbourne Victory on loan before moving to Melbourne City where she won two back-to-back championships. While at City, the Thorns traded her to Orlando Pride, where she played for a portion of the season before being loaned back out to Melbourne. Catley won the championship for a third time in 2020, scoring the game winning goal. Now, Catley is playing for Arsenal .
