Intro
At 33 years old, Daniela Montoya is ready to lead the Colombian Women's National team to gold. Montoya is hoping to perform well and bring Colombia, as an underdog, a gold medal in her second Olympic appearance. In the 2023, World Cup, Colombia ended up defeating the number two ranked team, Germany in a match. Since they know they are capable of doing it, they are hungry for a win in this Olympics. Born in Medellín, this midfielder represented Colombia in the 2011, 2015, and 2023 Fifa World Cup and the 2012 Summer Olympics. It has been a significant amount of time since her last Summer Olympics appearance and she is ready to lead the Colombians to success.
"You have to have patience. It is 5 minutes in victory and 5 minutes to analyze defeat and let it go."
International career
Montoya will be playing in her second Olympic games this summer on foreign, French turf. Currently, Montoya plays for Atlético Nacional and the Columbia Women's National Team. In the 2015 World Cup, Montoya scored a goal in a 1-1 tie with Mexico. This goal was coined "the best goal of the tournament." Unfortunately, Montoya was not selected to play in the 2016 Summer Olympics due to her political standpoint. She criticized the Colombian Football Federation for its inability to pay players their contractional bonuses from the previous World Cup. This standpoint prevented her from playing. Now, she is hungrier than ever for success because it is time for her redemption, after being unable to previously play.
