During my residency, I participated in a Fresco Painting Workshop for 4 days in Florence with Instructor Emanuele Capozza.

This was a wonderful experience because Emanuele was an excellent instructor and host.

Fresco Workshops in Florence

This workshop was a brief introduction to the unique and ancient process of fresco painting, in particular the wet method, which is the same method used by the Etruscans during the 8th - 4th century BC.

With Emanuele’s guidance I learned how to prepare the plaster ground, how to mix and finish the surface, and how to paint with water and dry pigment into the fresh plaster. It was a difficult technique and so different from oil painting, yet, I found it to be very interesting and in ways it gave me ideas of how to expand my own painting practice.

At the end of the 4 days I had worked on 6 different frescos.
