I’m Almost There by Ednna Velázquez Hernández
I’m Almost There
Somewhere in Santa Barbara, 2017
Tears are transparent, still I can not see through
I used to cry every day
but you don’t need to know that
I was different
but that was good
I was the only one
Now it appears
I am not
These days
I feel like I walk
but don't get there on time
These days
I struggle to get attention
Next year
They will all see me again
Next year
They will all love me again
Trudge by Ednna Velázquez Hernández
I walk the streets of ash
with shoulders that carry words
Of late love that’s passed,
With regrets and disappointments
Of an unbalanced heart
That I didn’t see before.
I’m a fool
Because I loved.
They said to lift my feet when I walk
But people like me just don’t touch the ground.
