Open Fruit is the annual creative writing + arte visual magazine published by Santa Barbara City College's Creative Writing Program, which is housed in the English Department.

Open Fruit took shape over a series of small meetings between poets, filmmakers, fashion designers, journalists, poets, fiction writers, painters, and collagists who were all studying/neighboring/working at SBCC in Fall 2019. From the start, we wanted to make a magazine for everyone, where anyone could contribute, and anyone could participate in the making of this publication. We used a horizontal structure to engage each other during meetings, draft the shape of our publication, and chart the ideal reach of this collaboration.
