From the moment I saw her-
beauty could be seen on her delicate face.
She was-
a pillar of strength.
Then- the world became lifeless and ever so bleak.
The blank stares began-
and fear smothered any beauty to be found.
She wept and gasped in the corner of an unfamiliar room.
Everything-
became so small.
Mirrors became the enemy-
and she couldn't see herself.
Eminent change was knocking on the door of the small room.
She shook-she cried- she silenced herself-
but it remained as it was. Change is just around the corner.
She went back to what she knew- and begged him and God-
but each left the emptiness just as it was.
He had been so cruel-
and made the mirror a place of horror for her.
For only younger women could satisfy his gaze.
How could she satisfy him?
A woman of vast life-
Yet still not enough;
for the one who made the commitment to her-
but suddenly broke it.
She resided in a body that reflected the vastness of her life,
but the comments on her form-
had been used as a weapon.
Her head remained down to the side- and to the sky-
but far from the direct gaze.
Tears tricking yet again.
After some time-
Some peace began to settle,
Upon her exhausted mind, but only for a moment.
The mirror-still as tumultuous as it was-
Pained her, but she found her head a little higher than it was.
His voice began to dissipate-
and her ability to see came back.
The bed became a place for rest-
No longer a place for sorrows and solace.
To see her again-
my heart skipped a beat,
The relief flowed in and out of my veins.
All I could do was smile-
and bow my head in reverence,
to the women in front of me.
