What do Guidance Counsellors do?

The Guidance Counsellors help by:

  • Promoting positive attitudes among students and themselves, family members, and the community

  • Assisting students in how school performance relates to future opportunities

  • Developing and delivering classroom guidance lessons that teach skills such as leadership, decision making, resolving conflicts, and respecting others.

  • Working with students, parents, and school staff to identify learning needs and to design interventions to enhance student success

  • Helping students to recognize and make the best of their abilities

  • Providing support during a personal crisis

  • Working with students on attendance concerns

  • Helping to create a safe and positive learning environment

  • Referring students to outside community supports which they might need

  • They work in collaboration with other programs in the school, EnrichIt, iRISE and STEAM, to make sure that students have all that they need to grow, learn and reach the potential which every student has.
