You will do one CFT, towards the end. Like the PFT, you also need to get 235 or higher. It's graded similarly to the PFT.
I really recommend the Danner Reckoning boots for the CFT. They are light-weight and feel almost like sneakers. I used Bates Heavy Duty Winter Boots for everything at OCS, but at TBS I used Danner Reckonings for everything and really felt the difference. If you go in the winter, I would only use the Danners for the CFT, O-Course, and Endurance Course. Maybe hikes, but definitely not for the field. They are not very warm.
Here are the CFT standards.
Tips for movement to contact: Just run for your life. Also, Danner Reckonings are great for the CFT.
Ammo Can Lifts: Use your legs as much as your using your arms!!!!
During PT, you'll get to practice things that you will do on the CFT. My OSO did a mock CFT with us, and it was helpful to be familiar with the third event, the Maneuver Under Fire.
Here is a video of this event.
Some tips:
Low crawl: This can tire you out. Really push with your feet while twisting your body side-to-side, like a flailing motion. Try not to use your arms.
Buddy drag: Get the person high up, then lean back and push back with your legs. If you are hunched over, it's really difficult. When I worked for a fire department, we had to drag a 180-lb dummy while wearing full bunker gear. The dummy was suited up with an oxygen tank. I failed the first time, because I did not get the dummy high enough and all the friction made me miserable. The next time, ten minutes later, I really hoisted that dummy up, leaned back, and got way less time than I needed.
Grenade toss: When you toss it, don't watch it. Just get down and do push-ups. It'll land where it lands with or without you looking at it.
Buddy carry: Get them up on your shoulders. Have them place their hand on the small of your back. Use one arm for momentum.
