At OCS, you will have two billets that you will be evaluated on. Do your best! If you get below standards on both, don't let it get to you. I got "Within Standards" on both but I got lucky with what billets I got at what time. I had Squad Leader Week 4, and Platoon Sergeant Week 7. By Week 7 I was pretty familiar with what to do.
Billets you can hold:
Company Commander- reports to a Major
Company First Sergeant- reports to a First Sergeant
Company Executive Officer- reports to a Captain
Company Gunnery Sergeant- reports to a Gunnery Sergeant
Platoon Commander- report to your Captain Platoon Commander
Platoon Sergeant (this is known as the hardest billet)- reports to your Platoon Sergeant
Platoon Guide- reports to a Sergeant Instructor
Squad Leaders- you only report to your student staff but you still get evaluated
What helped me in my billets:
KNOW THE SCHEDULE! Write the schedule in your notebook.
Wear a watch
Know the names of everyone in your platoon, unless you are squad leader and it's like...the second week.
Know the names of the other billet holders.
Know who you report to.
Know the whereabouts of everyone under you. This includes their appointments and stuff
ALWAYS HAVE AN ACCURATE RIFLE COUNT!!! Holy shit do not mess this one up
Be timely, but accurate
Know the proper reporting procedures
Be enthusiastic and compassionate
Always have a plan, and a back-up plan
If you happen to not get lucky like me, watch the other billet holders. Learn from them. Ask advice from prior service members. If you are on liberty and you have an upcoming billet, you can ask me for advice. I can't give you academic test answers and stuff, but I can go over some platoon-leadership stuff. I include contact info in the last page.
