This was a miserable experience at OCS. We were so cold and wet! I did not know what this was at OCS, and the instructors wouldn't tell us. One captain said, "it's fun! You'll find out soon."
I'm super paranoid about being an integrity violator, and you'll hate me for this, but I don't think I can tell you much. Some things I can tell you:
This course is designed to see how you can organize a fireteam to do some problem-solving activities. You'll get instructions in the form of a combat order (5 Paragraph Order) and you'll be expected to give instructions to your fire team in the form of an abridged combat order. I will go over what a combat order is in detail in the "Combat Orders" folder
Whenever you give an order, make sure to post security. This means, that in a fireteam, one member looks outbound, watching for the enemy. In a squad, assign a fire team.
The order you will give won't be as detailed as a full tactical scenario. Just hit the big 5.
(Orientation) Tell your fireteam where you're at.
I. Situation Tell your fireteam what's going on
II. Mission Tell your fireteam what you have to do, when you have to do it, and why you're doing it
III. Execution Tell your fireteam how you're going to do it
IV. Admin & Logistics Tell your fireteam what equipment you'll need and what to do if someone gets hurt
V. Command and Signal Tell your fireteam who's in charge and how you're going to communicate
Keep it simple! And trust me, things will go wrong. You might not "complete a mission" but the point of the exercise is to see if you can understand instructions and come up with a plan to execute them. I did horrible at the first one because I honestly didn't understand the assignment, but on the second one, even though I didn't complete the mission, I still did okay (not great) because I gave clearer instructions and had some sort of plan.
Good luck!! (And be careful)
