At OCS, you'll have sick call every morning. If something is wrong, you go to medical first thing in the morning. There are two ways to put yourself on sick call. One is a sign up sheet the night before, the other is seeing the Company Corpsman when he goes on deck in the morning. I think there were different sections of medical:
Medical- for sickness, infections, broken bones, sprains, etc
Physical therapy and ATR (Athletic Training Room)- I think you have to go to medical, then they might send you here. This is where people got their ankles taped and stuff and do exercises to help recover from an injury.
When you return from medical, you need three copies of your medical chit. One for yourself, one for the instructor of the day, and one for your instructor (I think). I can't remember off the top of my head, but you need three.
After going to medical, three things can happen:
You have a one-and-done treatment
You get dropped (usually they send you to an ER first)
You get put on light duty or SIQ (sick in quarters) and you have to return to medical the next day for an evaluation.
When I went to OCS, there was pink-eye going around. After the Quigley, my eye was all blood shot so I went to medical the next day. It wasn't pink eye, but they gave me eye drops. This is an example of a one and done.
Some people had an injury so bad, or an illness like mono, that they got dropped. I'm assuming COVID gets you dropped.
The third option is what happened to most people. They would sprain an ankle, and they would have to go to medical for a few days. Or they would get cellulitis or strep throat. VGE was an illness that had people quarantined. Some people would get a boot, or crutches, or a brace for a few days.
Right near the end of OCS I had to go to medical because I couldn't walk. It was the day after we took our final PFT. Turns out I had a broken heel and eight stress fractures. I got a boot and crutches. If this happened the day before, I would have been dropped. I got a light duty chit, which means I wasn't able to PT or anything. We had been done with PT at this point, but I missed the Montford Point Challenge, Pugil Sticks, Medal of Honor Run, and Moto Run :/
