A large amount of the Universe can not be seen, why?
Surprisingly we do not know what the greater part of the universe is composed of. We think it is composed of galaxies, stars, planets, black holes, comets and asteroids but that is only a portion of the entire universe. When scientists study our universe, they observe that it is expanding, that is, there is something else out there and we call it dark energy.
We do not know much about dark energy but we know that it occupies 68% of the universe. There are also things in outer space that have gravity, we can see their attraction to matter, but not common matter. Scientists call it dark matter. But like dark energy, we do not know clearly what dark matter is. But 27% is made up of this strange thing.
Scientists have produced many theories to explain what exactly dark matter can be. Some believe that they can be normal objects like cold gases, dark galaxies or compact and massive halos. Other scientists believe that dark matter may be composed of foreign particles that were created in the early stages. Such particles can include weakly interacting mass particles or neutrinos.
Together, dark energy and dark matter make up 95% of the universe. That means that what we know and understand is only 5%.
Dark matter poses some of the most important questions in the study of space and physics. Many of the scientists are using observations and calculations to find out what it is, it will help us to understand more about our universe, where there is more to discover and much more to learn.
