Delaware Break & Meal Guidelines
Delaware requires meal periods for longer shifts but does not mandate rest breaks. Newbridge applies consistent internal standards to ensure proper staff coverage and performance.
For shifts worked in Delaware:
A 30-minute meal is required for shifts of 7.5 hours or more
There is no state requirement for paid rest breaks
Newbridge Standard:
All breaks and meals are paid. Scheduling must meet Delaware’s meal requirement first. Additional breaks are scheduled according to Newbridge standards.
General Guidelines (Applied Alongside State Law):
4 hours or less → No break
4.5 to 5.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break
6 to 6.5 hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + 1 paid 30-minute meal
6.5 to 7.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break + 1 paid 30-minute meal
7.5+ hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + 1 paid 30-minute meal (meets DE meal requirement)
Breaks are scheduled evenly throughout the shift and should not be taken within the first or last hour.
