Alaska Break & Meal Guidelines
Alaska requires meal periods for longer shifts but does not mandate rest breaks for adult workers. Newbridge ensures compliance while maintaining internal break standards.
For shifts worked in Alaska:
A 30-minute meal is required for shifts over 5 consecutive hours
There is no state requirement for paid rest breaks
Newbridge Standard:
All breaks and meals are paid. Scheduling must meet Alaska’s meal requirement first. Additional rest breaks are provided under Newbridge standards.
General Guidelines (Applied Alongside State Law):
4 hours or less → No break
4.5 to 5.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break
6 to 6.5 hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + 1 paid 30-minute meal (meets AK meal requirement)
6.5 to 7.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break + 1 paid 30-minute meal
8+ hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + 1 paid 30-minute meal
Breaks are scheduled evenly throughout the shift and should not be taken within the first or last hour.
