Colorado Break & Meal Guidelines
Colorado has specific meal and rest break requirements that must be followed. Newbridge ensures full compliance with these laws while also maintaining internal standards to support staff wellbeing and performance.
For shifts worked in Colorado:
A 30-minute meal is required for shifts over 5 hours
A paid 10-minute rest break is required for every 4 hours worked (or major fraction thereof)
Newbridge Standard:
All breaks and meals are paid. Scheduling must meet Colorado’s legal requirements first. Where state law does not fully define break structure, Newbridge guidelines are applied to ensure staff are properly rested and not overworked.
General Guidelines (Applied Alongside State Law):
4 hours or less → No break (unless rest period is triggered by state rule)
4.5 to 5.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break
6 to 6.5 hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + required 30-minute meal
6.5 to 7.5 hours → 1 paid 15-minute break + 1 paid 30-minute meal (ensure total rest time meets state requirements)
8+ hours → 2 paid 15-minute breaks + 1 paid 30-minute meal (adjust as needed to meet rest period rules)
Breaks are scheduled evenly throughout the shift and should not be taken within the first or last hour.
