Using Davinci Resolve to create proxy files for PP
Creating proxies for editorial Premiere Pro Workflow in Detail
Step 1. Make Sure your footage is backed up to Editshare during and after production
Background: Although Premiere Pro has an established Proxy Workflow using DaVinci Resolve allows for more flexibility.
Setting Up the Project
Background: At this point in the process it makes sense to setup a project at 1080P as that will match your editing resolution. During the edit you can setup masking for 2.35 aspect ratio if that is what you are delivering.
Open Davinci Resolve
Click the gear icon to open settings
For a 25fps film use these Timeline Settings dependent on the framerate of your film
Save the settings
Save the project File>Save and name it.
Importing Footage
When creating proxies for editorial it makes sense to create them on a daily basis, setting up a timeline for each day / card.
Create a Day 1 Card 1 bin and drag your footage in the bin.
Note: The Reel Name column is empty. For the process of tracking footage between AMC and PP to work that column needs to have the same name as the file.
Select Settings > General > Conform Options

Select Assist using reel names from the:
Choose either Embedding in Source Clip or Source clip file name
You are looking for something like this in the Reel Name column.
Creating an Export Timeline
Select the clips you want to export and select Create New Timeline Using Selected Clips...
Name the Timelineā¦ for example Day 1 Card 1
Preparing the Timeline for export - colour management
You now have the opportunity to enable Resolve Colour management. To do this you need to know the colour space of the camera used to shoot the film.

Or you can apply a LUT provided by the camera manufacturer.
You can also do you own custom grade for editorial.
Exporting proxies for Premiere Pro Editorial
Goto the Deliver Page
Use the following settings
Video Tab
Notes
Name your location folders to match what you are exporting
We are exporting individual clips with matching file name and source timecode

Audio Tab
If your clips have audio that you will used in the edit enable Export Audio, otherwise it can be disabled
File Tab

Make sure Source Name is enabled
Setting up the Render Queue
Click Add to Render Queue.
You can now add multiple timelines to the render queue making sure you create now folders for each Day / Card.
After you have added all your timelines you can go ahead and select them all in the Queue and click Start Render.
