A series of short films were produced, documenting the stories of people and events in the Northeast New Territories (NENT). The stories depict the truthful narrative of the NENT community as they face a wave of development. New episodes have been released since we returned to NENT in 2018 to interview villagers and young people involved in this movement.

In the wake of a massive "development juggernaut", no one is spared. While the majority of society chooses to remain silent, some have chosen to forge a different path. By delving deep and meticulously into the local communities, they have rethought local life and the connections between the land, the environment, and the neighbours.

During a screening event held by the Concern Group in Ping Che in the spring of 2015, they captured the silver grass in full bloom. This land, however, has now vanished after the Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point was built. As a result, we came to understand what "protecting our homeland" really means.

In the North-eastern New Territories, Kwu Tung North is one of the largest non-indigenous villages. Over the years, this vast land has supported Hong Kong's agriculture and industry, as well as become home to several generations of Hongkongers. A government-driven development plan, however, is set to bring significant changes to the residents' previously peaceful lives...

This video records the events outside the Environmental Impact Assessment consultation meeting for the "Northeast New Territories New Development Area" held by the Advisory Council on the Environment on September 9, 2013. It reflects the residents' perspectives on the impending "development" that will impact their homes. It also showcases how a group of young people in Hong Kong have stood in solidarity with the residents of the Northeast region.
位於上水北面的虎地坳村,為一條恬靜且充滿神秘感的村落,當中人稱「Dee哥」的關注組成員之一的 — 李木元,住在虎地坳村已超過四十多年,對這條村的歷史與文化,暸如始掌,處處流露出對這片土地的自豪與珍重。
Situated north of Sheung Shui, Fu Tei Au Village is a tranquil and mysterious settlement. One of the Concern Group members, known as "Brother Dee" (or "Dee Gor")—Lee Muk Yuen, has lived in Fu Tei Au Village for over forty years. He is thoroughly familiar with the history and culture of this village, and his pride and cherishment for this land are evident in everything he does.
與粉嶺聯和墟一街之隔,馬屎埔村可謂粉嶺新市鎮中的一片「淨土」。但同時間,過去二十年來,馬屎埔村深受發展商囤積農地所影響,一片片原本可耕之地遭到圍封而被迫荒廢,以致不少村民被迫棄耕,甚或離開。猶幸數年前,一班熱心的年青人與村民,決定在此建立馬寶寶社區農場,透過復耕及公眾教育,將本地農業與「城鄉共生」的精神發揚光大。
In the Fanling New Town, Ma Shi Po can be considered an "oasis" within a short walk of Luen Wo Hui. The village, however, has been heavily impacted by property developers hoarding agricultural land over the past two decades. Many villagers have been forced to abandon farming or even leave the area as the once arable land has been fenced off and abandoned piece by piece. Fortunately, a group of passionate young people collaborated with the villagers to establish the Ma Po Po Community Farm a few years ago. Through farm revitalization and public education, they have been able to promote local agriculture and the spirit of "urban-rural symbiosis" in this area.
鄰近聯和墟的石湖新村,過去十年間不斷受地產發展商囤地、收地所困擾,令村內的原本風貌遭受極大破壞,居民生活受到莫大困擾。如今,新界東北發展計劃的推出,在完全缺乏諮詢的情況下,他們正面臨著被迫遷的危機。究竟,他們最終何去何從呢?
Located next to Luen Wo Hui, Shek Wu San Tsuen has been plagued by land hoarding and land acquisition by property developers for the past decade. There has been a significant disruption to the original landscape of the village, affecting the living conditions of the residents. With the introduction of the Northeast New Territories Development Plan, the villagers are facing forced relocation without proper consultation. At the end of the day, what will happen to these residents?
是次特輯記錄了2012年9月22日「新界東北發展計劃」最後一次諮詢論壇的過程,在論壇上,政府代表、受影響居民及其他社會關注團體,意見極大分岐。透過此特輯,我們除了讓觀眾了解「新界東北發展計劃」內容以及各持分者的意見外,更希望引起觀眾對「發展」及「保育」的反思。
This special feature documents the final consultation forum on the "Northeast New Territories Development Plan" held on September 22, 2012. There was a marked divergence of opinion among government representatives, affected residents, and other concerned social groups at the forum. With this feature, we hope to provide the audience with information about the "Northeast New Territories Development Plan" and the opinions of various stakeholders, as well as stimulate reflection on the terms "development" and "conservation."
2022年9月13日,有超過70年歷史、屹立於古洞北數十年的志記鎅木廠,受到古洞北新發展區工程收地影響而被迫結束營運。本關注組於較早前曾訪問了王鴻權 (人稱權哥)。對於政府收回廠址,他表示極度無奈。
As a result of land resumption for the Kwu Tung North New Development Area project, Chi Kee Sawmill, which has been operating for over 70 years, ceased operations on September 13, 2022. The Concern Group had previously interviewed Wong Hung Kuen (also known as Brother Kuen). Concerning the government's reclaiming of the factory site, he expressed extreme helplessness.
在聲援東北案被告的集會中,劉小麗對十三名被告無私為東北受影響居民付出的年輕人表示同情,並強烈批評政府以強大的法律及輿論壓力,抹黑反對新界東北發展的一方。她希望香港市民認清事實,合力反對東北規劃。
In a rally supporting the defendants in the Northeast Case, Lau Siu-lai expressed sympathy for the thirteen young defendants who selflessly advocated for the Northeast's residents. She criticized the government for using immense legal and public pressure to smear opponents of the Northeast New Territories' development. It was her hope that Hong Kong citizens would recognize the truth and unite against the Northeast development plan.
受「覆核案」影響而被取消議員資格的姚松炎博士,於2017年8月16日晚上聲援「東北案」各被告集會中發言。他指出,新界東北發展計劃本身正正反映官商勾結的嚴重性,批評政府用盡一切方法打壓示威者,是為了避免官商既得利益受損。他呼籲各位在場人士努力追求公義,促使政府回應市民的聲音,並且合力建立一個廉潔的社會,就如四十多年前廉政公署成立前,港人所爭取的一樣。
In support of the defendants in the so-called "Northeast Case," Dr. Edward Yiu Chung-Yim, who was disqualified from being a legislator due to the "judicial review case," spoke at a rally on August 16, 2017. He pointed out that the Northeast New Territories Development Plan itself reflects the severity of collusion between the government and businesses. As part of an effort to protect vested interests, he criticized the government for suppressing protesters. In his address, he urged everyone present to strive for justice, urging the government to listen to the voices of citizens and work together for a clean society, just as Hongkongers had fought for decades before the establishment of the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
2016年5月21日 (至22日),政府於粉嶺祥華邨社區會堂舉行有關新界東北發展計劃前期工程諮詢會。當晚一班古洞北及粉嶺北的居民出席會議,對政府代表漠視居民反對意見的態度表達不滿。
On May 21-22, 2016 evening, the government held a consultation session on the preliminary works of the Northeast New Territories development plan at the Sheung Wah Estate Community Hall in Fanling. Residents from Kwu Tung North and Fanling North attended the meeting and expressed dissatisfaction with the government representatives' disregard for the residents' opposing views.
2016年4月,位於新界東北的馬屎埔村一片佔地約5500平方呎的農地,被恆基地產以「原址換地」方式收回作發展用途。事件引起民間關注土地的團體及市民關注。在4月28日,馬屎埔村居民以及馬寶寶社區農場成員區晞旻接受傳媒訪問,並就此事件表達她的看法。
In April 2016, a piece of farmland of about 5,500 square feet in Ma Shi Po Village in the Northeast New Territories was reclaimed by Henderson Land Development through a "land swap" arrangement for development purposes. This incident attracted the attention of various community groups and citizens concerned about land issues. On April 28th, Becky Au, a Ma Shi Po Village resident and Ma Po Po Community Farm member was interviewed by the media and expressed their views on this matter.
2016年3月初,古洞北發生令人震驚的拆屋事件,居民所住的鐵皮屋一日之間,遭推土機化為瓦礫,家園盡毀。
A shocking house demolition incident occurred in Kwu Tung North in early March 2016, in which bulldozers destroyed the residents' tin-roofed houses in one day, reducing them to rubble.
2015年9月10日,一班東北居民及其支援人士再度佔據國際金融中心二期出入口,表達對東北發展計劃本身以及地產商囤積農地的不滿。就讀樹仁大學、土地正義聯盟成員吳卓恆更於在場公開講話。他批評地產霸權壟斷土地令香港經濟結構陷入單一化,剝奪社會發展的可能性。期間更走到在場保安員面前,向他們闡釋一班東北居民所爭取的訴求。
To express dissatisfaction with the "North-east New Territories Development Plan" and land hoarding by real estate developers, Northeast New Territories residents, and their supporters occupied the International Financial Centre Phase II entrance on September 10, 2015. Ng Cheuk Hang, a student at Shue Yan University and a member of the Land Justice League spoke at the scene. During his speech, he criticized the real estate hegemony for creating a single-structured economy and denying society the chance to develop. He then approached the security guards present and explained the demands of the Northeast New Territories residents.

On September 10, 2015, Northeast Territories residents and their supporters once again occupied the entrance of the International Finance Centre Phase II to express their dissatisfaction with the "North-east New Territories Development Plan" and the land hoarding by real estate developers. Ng Cheuk Hang, a student at Shue Yan University and a member of the Land Justice League, spoke to the security guards present. He criticized the real estate hegemony for monopolizing land, leading to a single-structured economy in Hong Kong, depriving society of development opportunities, and affecting the next generation's choices for an autonomous life.
