Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder was born named Stevland Hardaway Judkins in Michigan with retinopathy of prematurity, an eye disorder which was exacerbated when he received too much oxygen in an incubator, leading to his blindness. Stevie became a child prodigy and started recording at age 12. He was involved in predominantly black churches and that gave him his love for music. “Little Stevie Wonder” got his first #1 song in “Fingertips Pt. 2” at the young age of 13. That topped both the R&B and pop charts. After his early days with Motown, he went on to put out 9 more number-ones in pop and 19 for R&B. Popular songs like “Superstition”, “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and “Part-Time Lover” were all big hits in the ‘70s and ‘80s. As of right now, Stevie Wonder has 23 studio albums spanning over 43 years. He’s won 25 Grammy Awards and won 3 Album of the Years in 3 consecutive years. He is known as one of the most influential artists in recent times.
