Henri Christophe 1835-1866 

La maison, organisée en Société, est dirigée par sa veuve Mélanie Devoyer, née en 1834 et son principal associé Etienne Louise, né en 1821.

MM Christophe et Etienne, dont les progrès ont été toujours croissants (méd de br, 1867, d’argent, 1878 et d’or, 1889). En 1878, ces facteurs présentèrent un instrument pourvu d’une boite résonnante appliquée aux sommiers, donnant la faculté de faire parler les notes graves avec la même rapidité que les notes aiguës, ainsi qu’un harmonium à volume réductible. Pour 1889, ils soumirent au jury, outre divers modèles, un harmonium construit d’après les indications de Dr Gontard, (Voir le brevet du piano-Gontard, 19 mars 1888 et 27 janvier 1889, n° 189404), pour obtenir des cinquièmes de tons. (ex. si dièse, do bémol, do naturel, do dièse, do double dièse). Cet instrument, dans lequel l’auteur s’est proposé de réaliser la justesse absolue, est aujourd’hui au musée du Conservatoire. MM Christophe et Etienne ont fait breveter, en 1891, un harmonium pliant nommé angelophone.

The house, organized as a Company, is managed by his widow Mélanie Devoyer, born in 1834, and his main partner Etienne Louise, born in 1821.

MM Christophe and Etienne, whose progress has been constantly increasing (med de br, 1867, d'argent, 1878 and d'or, 1889). In 1878, these makers presented an instrument equipped with a resonant box applied to the windchests, giving the ability to make the low notes speak with the same speed as the high notes, as well as a harmonium with reducible volume. For 1889, they submitted to the jury, in addition to various models, a harmonium built according to the indications of Dr Gontard, (See the patent of the piano-Gontard, March 19, 1888 and January 27, 1889, n° 189404), to obtain fifths of tones. (eg B sharp, C flat, C natural, C sharp, C double sharp). This instrument, in which the author intended to achieve absolute accuracy, is today in the Conservatoire museum. MM Christophe and Etienne patented, in 1891, a folding harmonium called angelophone.
