There are a few ways to approach setting assignments on Google Classroom. They all work up to a point - but some make life much more difficult for you and your students.
The simple rule of thumb is: WORD IS NEVER THE ANSWER. Whatever the question!
If you find yourself attaching a Word document to an assignment, STOP and take a step back!
This is the way to set an assignment on Classroom.
This is not just prejudice against Word on my part - though I can't imagine wanting to use something that looks so ugly!
It's not even that Google Docs are so much more efficient and easy for staff and pupils alike.
It's because Google Docs allow you to keep an eye on the work as it is being done. You can give immediate, targeted feedback at the time it is needed.
We all spend a lot of time marking work. We probably don't spend enough time asking if our marking is useful or effective. Or how it could be more effective and useful.
Using GoogleDocs is an important part of that debate.
