This section of the site tries to answer that question.

It contains a 'periodic table of apps' - apps which we have tried out at Clayesmore and have found to be effective. They all work whatever make of computer your students are using and they are all free.

There is also a sequence to work through if you are thinking of trying out a brand new tool. A little bit of time working through these steps now could save you a great deal of wasted time and disappointment in the longer run.
