THINK Before you Speak Strategy

(Colan, 2014)
This strategy helps students stop and think before they speak. This strategy will help students consider others’ feelings and will encourage them to be kind when communicating with peers and adults (i.e., rumors, feedback, criticism, stories).
Students in the 4th grade often spread rumors, tease peers, and distract others from learning. In order to reduce this behavior, it is important for students to evaluate their behavior(s), especially oral expression.
Is it true?
Is it helpful?
Is it inspiring?
Is it necessary?
Is it kind?
To promote generalization, students with learning disabilities should use this strategy when engaging in written and oral expression both in school and outside of school. In today’s society, cyber bullying is huge. For this, it is important for students to monitor their posts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and other social media accounts.
