Engineering Design is an instructional method that uses a design challenge to help, frame, and apply scientific knowledge. Students are presented with a real world problem that can have many possible solutions. Through the lesson, they will learn about the Engineering Design process, engaging in revisions and self-reflection. These units are also highly collaborative, simulating how engineers will work together to create designs and solve problems.
In the unit below, students will design a solution for cleaning trash in a simulated ocean environment. This 5-day unit was designed to be used in a 7th grade Life Science classroom.
