Welcome to the 1950s Cinema section of the MrSuperphil Picture House.
The 1950s gave us a fantastic mix of science fiction, giant monster movies, classic thrillers, Hammer beginnings and some of the most memorable genre films ever made.
This section brings together my reviews from a decade filled with atomic fears, alien invasions, suspense and timeless cinematic adventure.
Although a great decade, most of it consisted of sci- fi movies. It wasn't until the late 50s when it got really good with Hammer films. The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), and Dracula (1958) - both ground breaking movies.
Hitchcock was also at his best, making my two favorite movies by him - Rear Window (1954), and Vertigo (1958). Another great movie he made was North By Northwest (1959).
