Welcome to the 1940s Cinema section of the MrSuperphil Picture House.

The 1940s brought us wartime dramas, film noir, mystery thrillers, Sherlock Holmes adventures, romantic classics and more unforgettable Universal monster movies.

This section collects my reviews from a decade full of atmosphere, shadows, suspense and classic Hollywood storytelling.

Another good decade. Universal made some really fun monster movies, especally the Frankenstein series which I love. Also Val Lewton made some great atmospheric horror films, and Alfred Hitchcook with classics like Rebecca (1940), Notorious (1946) and Rope (1948).

Also love the Sherlock Holmes movies starring Basil Rathbone, still my favorite actor to play the role.
