The school is in the west of Turkey in the city Aydın ,where olive oil runs down from its mountains and honey comes out of its fields, to where people migrate from both eastern Turkey and Western European countries because of its wonderful nature, history, organic products and relaxed lifestyle.
The school is a medium size secondary school in Germencik / Aydın / Turkey with 450 students and 40 staff. Our students are 10-14 years old. In the school, there are 20 classrooms, a library, a canteen, a science lab, a conference hall and a I.T. lab. English is taught as a second language.
It takes 20 minutes to the city center. The school is a transportational school which has students coming from villages near the town and almost %65 of the students arrive to school by school buses.
The town, where the school is, is an immigration area and %60 of the students consists of these families' children. Students come from families of different social conditions. Their social backgrounds are also different and varied. These varieties enrich the school. Apart from different backgrounds, we have many children from socially deprived backgrounds. Many children come from single-parent and low income families. Those who come from eastern Turkey to work in agriculture are mostly uneducated, lowly paid and face social exclusion. We have many hyperactive students and a few students with hearing and speaking problems.
However,the school has an active and dynamic staff who take part in national projects, renews themselves towards the needs and offers. The school’s Girl Football Team has ranked the first in the group tournaments and has got the chance to join the quarterfinal which is held in Edirne city in 2014-2015 Education year. In addition to this, the ”Organic Bazaar” Project which is prepared and applied locally by school’s Project team has been tied to the “Balance on Eating” Project which is run regionally by Aydın Provincial Directorate of National Education. The school’s maths project named “Similarity and Equality in My Shadow” succeeded in maths and science project contest named “This is my work” which is known throughout the country by Ministry of National Education. Our school also actively takes place in the international contests. Besides these, the art of marbling, volleyball, football and table tenis courses is organised for the students and parents.
The school is now ready to start a Erasmus+ Project which we see as the potential for developing internationalism and a fantastic opportunity to make friends, work on collaborative projects and broaden our understanding of the world. We hope to build a successful link with our partners, so that both pupils and staff may share experiences via ICT tools or visits, exchange ideas, learn about life in another country, develop language skills and take part in curriculum linked projects.
