According to questionaires and interviews with parents of students whose school success are pretty low, show us that their children spend too much time on computer instead of doing homework or studying for exams. Although they spend lots of time with computers and they can understand and play very complex computer games, they can't even make a proper research on the Internet. When they are asked to prepare a homework on computer with some simple instructions, most of them are failed. Because, they don't know how to use even basic computer programmes like Microsoft Word or Internet Explorer.
For many students, a lack of personal experience with technology presents an additional challenge. So, they need to be encouraged to use technology effectively for their lessons and school success because using technology effectively will be an obligation for their future life. Today, every job requires a certain level of technological competences.
We, all partner schools, have seen that most of our students have similar problems. That's why, we come together for this project. This cross-border cooperation will enable us to compare our ICT teaching methods and assess their results. Good examples of teaching methods will be exchanged among partners. We all want to make students learn and use ICT actively and properly at school and in their life. So, every partner will bring another perspective to this project with its culture, lifestyle, teching methods and student types.
On the otherhand; technology has become part of the educational process, but too often it is separate and not integrated into the learning experience. Integrating technology into the curriculum is a priority in most countries today. Most educational technology experts agree that technology should be integrated, not as a separate subject or as a once-in-a-while project, but as a tool to promote and extend student learning on a daily basis. The challenge, of course, is in finding ways to use technology and to encourage students to use it. Because of that reason, we have thought that the project must be interesting for students. They should start using ICT with interesting topics. Otherwise, they might be reluctant. Presenting national children games to cross-border friends would be a good and funny way to encourage students to join the project. Children games will also be a good topic for activities. To sum up, the children games will be a good vehicle for us to reach the objectives. Students will get four ICT training courses. At the end of those trainings students will get a certificate and produce a work. Those products will be introduced to other partners during learning/teaching/training (L/T/T) activities.
We are also planning to organize some technological competitions, first, in our schools, and then internationally. Competing with foreign students will arise the curiosity of students. Furthermore, any chance of being chosen to go abroad will be a good encouragement for them to join the project and the training courses.
Additionally; different children' games, our topic of activities, from different countries will bring an interest and fun to our project. While trying to learn a new game, students will gain many skills both physically and psychologically. The students will enrich their knowledge with different games and will share them with friends when they are back to schools. During games they will experience feelings like anger, happiness, stress etc. They will learn to control their feelings. Being a member in a team will reinforce their communication skills, too.
During presentation of national games, the students will also learn some key words in partner schools' languages such as run, hop, skip, jump and stop. So, they will be aware of other nations and languages, too.
The above mentioned project activities will result in children being more active and more educated to use ICT properly as well as being more aware of other nations and cultures.
