This belief is one of the most talked about in our community. So this means if it is part of our beliefs in our place then we must- follow but there is no compulsion. In Echague some of us believe in the saying "malas yan" which means "that's badluck". If a dog or cat is seen staying under a casket it is said to be bad luck and a death curse.
But if we think differently, many of us believe on a saying "Every living has the right to live freely" including dogs or cats. But there is one question that I can't answer directly, Do pets have the right to be treated fairly , even if they have violated their beliefs? that makes me asked myself deeper.
The answer sadly is -no but at least for some people in my town only. Some believe that it brings bad luck to the family of the deceased as if a pet is left and stayed long under the casket.According to their belief, someone in the family will die next and to stop the curse the family of the deceased must decide to kill the pet or someone in their family will die and the curse will be transferred to the animal instead of the human.
This unique belief shows how strong culture and belief can be even stronger love for a pet. It is a reminder that in our community, our beliefs are one of the things that motivate and influence our actions no matter how painful and difficult it is.
