Howling Dogs

When it gets dark, we often witness the barking or howling of dogs in any place around us. Sometimes their barking is mixed with horror for us if there is something different in their barking that makes them feel scared or a little tearful.

 Most of us just ignore it as normal dog behavior. After all, yes dogs really bark at anything they see or hear, whether it is day or night.

 But for some people in Echague, it has a different meaning as some of us believe, especially the elderly who have more profound beliefs about the barking or howling of dogs.

 Our elders say that when dogs do not stop howling or barking especially at  midnight, it is because they see or hear something strange that people do not see - Spirits. 

Dogs have an extraordinary sense, they notice things that even we humans do not. Most believed that at night, dark spirits or ghosts walked around freely and when dog's hown nonstop they are reacting to those unseen beings.

Our strange beliefs like this remind us that our loved ones do not just disappear from this world, even if they have left physically.But this also has an advantage for the children in our area, they become disciplined, as by nightfall there are no more children playing in the dark and they go home to their own homes and be safe from any accidents or evil that may happen.
