INGREDIENTS
2 cups dark brown sugar (for sweetness)
1 cup water (to dissolve the sugar and create a syrup)
1/2 kilogram (a little over 1 pound) grated coconut meat (the main ingredient)
1/2 cup of something that thickens the mixture
It could be:
1/2 cup of diluted flour paste: Mix ½ cup of flour with some water to create a thin paste before adding it to the mixture.
Another thickener: It's also possible the diluted ingredient is something else used to thicken the filling, like cornstarch paste or even mashed cooked sweet potato.
PROCEDURES
Caramelize the sugar: Start by heating a pan on low heat. Once hot, add 2 cups of dark brown sugar. Gradually stir in 1 cup of water until the sugar dissolves and forms a rich caramel.
Incorporate the coconut: Once the sugar caramelizes, add ½ kilogram of grated coconut meat. Stir well to combine everything and continue cooking until the mixture dries out slightly.
Thicken with flour: To achieve a firmer consistency, add ½ cup of diluted flour (the consistency should be thick like a paste) and mix well until partially dry.
Test for doneness: The Hinti is ready when it holds its shape when scooped. You can stop cooking at this point.
