Extension Notes Is Being Rebuilt

modcore is introducing a completely redesigned Extension Notes system.

The previous Extension Notes feature inside Profile Cards was intentionally lightweight. While functional, it was limited in structure, scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.

The new Extension Notes is a dedicated workspace built from the ground up.

This change allows us to introduce advanced capabilities that were not possible within the previous modal-based implementation.

What’s New

The new Extension Notes page includes:

Dedicated full-page workspace (notes.html)
Search extensions by name
Filter extensions (All, Has Notes, Pinned)
Sidebar-based extension selection
Direct access to Chrome’s extension management page
Tags with intelligent tag recommendations
Secure encrypted notes (password-protected)
Global Notes Search across all extensions
Keyboard shortcuts for power users
Import and export functionality
Improved animations and empty-state illustrations
Refined storage architecture for long-term stability

All notes remain stored locally on the user’s device. No data is transmitted externally.

This redesign focuses on structure, privacy, and future extensibility.

Important: Storage and Compatibility

The new Extension Notes system uses a completely new storage structure and security model.

Because of this:

Notes created in the previous Profile Cards version are not compatible with the new system.
Automatic migration is not possible.
The previous version did not include export functionality.

Users who currently rely on the old system are advised to manually copy important notes before upgrading to the new version.

This architectural reset allows modcore to support encrypted notes, tagging, global search, and reliable long-term storage without legacy constraints.

We understand this may cause inconvenience, but it enables a significantly more robust system moving forward.

Why is Extension Notes being rebuilt?

The original implementation was designed as a lightweight add-on within Profile Cards. As feature requests grew (search, tagging, encryption, import/export), the modal-based structure became limiting and increasingly complex to maintain.

Rebuilding it as a dedicated page allows for:

Better performance
Stronger privacy guarantees

Will my old notes be migrated automatically?

No.

The previous version uses a different storage mechanism and does not support export. Migration is not technically feasible.

If you have important notes, please copy them manually before updating.

The old system was not built with structured export or compatibility in mind. Supporting migration would require maintaining legacy logic and storage formats, which conflicts with the goal of long-term stability and architectural clarity.

Are notes synced or uploaded?

No.

All notes remain stored locally in the browser. modcore does not upload, sync, or transmit extension notes.

Is encryption truly local?

Yes.

When a note is secured, it is encrypted locally and requires the user’s password to be decrypted. The password is not stored or transmitted.

When will the old system be removed?

The Profile Cards modal implementation will be removed after the new system stabilizes. A transition period will allow users to prepare before full removal.
