Privacy Policy

Effective Date: March 9, 2026

Applies to: modcore Extension Manager (modcore EM), modcore Authenticator, modcore Clipboard, all other modcore Chrome Extensions, the official modcore websites, and modcore's Patreon membership program.

1. Introduction and Scope

modcore is a collection of open-source tools and browser extensions developed by a team of private individuals operating from Germany, within the European Union.

We maintain a strict privacy-first approach: our software extensions operate with zero data collection by default. However, we do collect limited personal data when you voluntarily support us through Patreon or contact us directly. This Privacy Policy explains both contexts clearly.

2. "Zero Data Collection" for Software Users

For users of modcore browser extensions (obtained via GitHub, Chrome Web Store, Itch.io or Microsoft Edge Add-ons):

No analytics or tracking: We do not use Google Analytics or similar services. We do not track clicks, page views, session durations, or "anonymous usage statistics."
No server-side collection: modcore does not operate central servers to collect user data, IP addresses, or behavior logs.
Local storage only: All data (settings, profiles, clipboard history, etc.) is stored exclusively on your device using browser storage APIs. You control this data completely.

If a government entity or third party requested user data from our extensions, we would be unable to provide it—no such data exists in our possession.

3. Patreon Supporter Data

When you voluntarily support modcore through Patreon, we access limited information necessary to deliver membership benefits. This constitutes a separate processing activity with a different legal basis (performance of contract/legitimate interest).

Payment information: Credit card details, bank accounts, or billing addresses are processed exclusively by Patreon. We have no access to this data.
Physical addresses: If provided to Patreon, we do not retrieve or use them.
Phone numbers: If provided to Patreon, we do not retrieve or use them.

3.3 Legal Basis (GDPR)

Article 6(1)(b): Processing necessary for the performance of the support contract (delivering benefits you pledged for).
Article 6(1)(f): Legitimate interest in maintaining supporter records and community management.

You may withdraw support at any time via Patreon, which terminates our access to your data (subject to retention periods above for legal/accounting purposes).

4. External Communications & Sync Features

4.1 GitHub API

Some features request public metadata from GitHub's API directly from your browser. modcore does not intercept these requests. GitHub may process your IP address per their Privacy Statement.

4.2 Browser Sync (modcore Cloud)

"Cloud" or "Sync" features use chrome.storage.sync, which transmits data via your personal Google Account. modcore cannot access this data remotely; encryption and transmission are handled by Google/Chromium.

5. Website Privacy

modcore websites are informational only. We do not use tracking cookies or analytics services.

6. Security Measures

Content Security Policy: Strict CSP in extensions prevents unauthorized code execution.
No direct payment processing: We never handle financial data directly.
Patreon OAuth: We use secure, scoped API access with minimal permissions.

7. Your Rights (GDPR)

As a data subject, you have the following rights regarding any personal data we hold:

Response Time: We will respond to all requests within 30 days as required by GDPR.

Note: For extension users with no Patreon connection, no personal data is held—exercise your rights by uninstalling the extension and clearing browser storage.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Active supporters: Data retained while membership is active, plus periods noted in Section 3.1.
Canceled supporters: Personal identifiers deleted after 1 year; aggregated statistics (tier popularity) may be retained anonymized.
Legal obligations: Accounting records retained for 3 years per German tax law (HGB).
Security logs: IP addresses from email communications retained for 30 days for spam/abuse prevention.

9. International Data Transfers

Patreon is a US-based service. When you support us through Patreon, your data is transferred to the United States under Patreon's Privacy Shield/SCCs. We access this data from Germany (EU). We do not transfer your data to other third countries.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect legal changes or new features. Significant changes affecting Patreon data processing will be announced via Patreon posts. The "Effective Date" at the top indicates the current version.
