Member-Driven, Democratic Union
BLURB: The power of our union should rest entirely in the hands of the rank-and-file members. As such, members of MFE must be empowered to govern and lead our union. This requires transparency and clear communication between elected leaders and members as well as the direct participation of the rank-and-file in deciding union goals, priorities, and strategy. We aspire to our union being governed at the grassroots level by assemblies of workers at each worksite. These assemblies could meet regularly, address site-level issues, and elect union delegates. Union delegates should be accountable to and recallable by a vote of their constituency. Within the union, we defend the right of members to advocate different political positions and strategic priorities. MFE’s meeting structure, both site and local-wide, are not currently robust enough to provide the space for more debate.
