Defensible Space Assistance
Creating and maintaining 100 feet of defensible space around habitable structures is a wildfire preventative practice. Landowners within State Responsibility Areas (SRA) are required to create and maintain defensible space and those within the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) zone are encouraged to do so. Are you eligible to receive FREE help through the Tehama Conservation Fund's Defensible Space Assistance program? Limited time offer. See full details and apply here. Read more at TinderSmart Tehama's Wildfire Readiness Website.
Evacuation Routing Study for Tehama County
Kailey Flynn from Green DOT Transportation Solutions, a transportation consulting agency collaborating with the Tehama County Transportation Commission to develop a county-wide Secondary Access and Evacuation Routing Study for Tehama County residents was in Mineral on 5/31 introducing the study to the community. To learn more about the project and its goals find a copy of the project presentation ("Community Meeting Presentation") as well as an infographic with a brief project description and multiple ways to access project updates ("Tehama Outreach Infographic").
West Lassen Headwaters Project
Recently, the Sierra Institute for Community and Environment, the Lassen National Forest, and the Lassen Volcanic National Park hosted a Public Meeting focused on the West Lassen Headwater Project (WLHP) on Saturday, June 10th. The West Lassen Headwaters Project is a landscape-scale restoration initiative to improve forest resilience, watershed health, and vital community fire protection across 172,000 acres of diverse habitats in critically important headwaters flowing from Lassen Peak. Approximately 70 percent of the WLHP is outside the Dixie Fire perimeter – much of that having not seen fire in over 100 years; this area represents the majority of green forest left on the Almanor Ranger District, Lassen National Forest and includes multiple communities at-risk, including Mineral and Mill Creek. The project will also restore 52,000 acres of forest within the Dixie Fire perimeter, reducing the risk of reburn in a future high-intensity fire.

Thank You Rakers!
Thank you to everyone who has been removing debris and green waste and turning it in at the Green Waste containers at the Park Headquarters! Rake your property and dump the pine needles for free at Mineral's 20-yard yardwaste dumpster located in Park Service HQ before they stop replacing it in mid-July! Reach out to neighbors if you need help so we can keep Mineral as safe as possible. No plastic bags or other containers in the dumpster, please.
