Have you ever disagreed with someone and thought, “Wait… they might also be right”?
In our communities, we often face complex issues where multiple perspectives can be valid—and that’s where critical thinking shines.
In this final activity, you’ll practice seeing an issue from all sides, questioning assumptions, and developing your own well-reasoned stance.
Before diving in, consider watching Cleo Wade's TED Talk: "Want to Change the World? Start by Being Brave Enough to Care". This talk emphasizes the power of kindness and the importance of showing up for others, setting the stage for thoughtful discussion on community choices.
TASK #1
Imagine you’re advising your local community council. Your voice matters. But so does understanding all sides.
Choose one of the following questions and explore both perspectives:
Should local governments prioritize inclusiveness in public spaces, even if it means changing traditions?
Should schools promote cultural traditions that might not reflect all members of the community?
Argue FOR the policy:
Who benefits?
What problems might it solve?
How does it support inclusion, tolerance, or diversity?
Argue AGAINST the policy:
What concerns or values might it threaten?
Who could feel excluded or unheard?
What are the risks of change?
Critical Thinking Questions:
What values are at play in this issue?
What assumptions do you notice—your own or others’?
What compromises or creative solutions could be considered?
How does your community approach these kinds of tensions?
TASK #2
Write a short personal statement, mini-essay, or record a voice message:
What is your final position—and why?
What evidence or experiences shaped your view?
How might your decision impact others?
