Attached is an example of the many safety posters that I will have throughout my lab. The example poster shows students what not to wear in the lab so that they can prevent accidents and injuries. I will have a poster at each machine to remind students of important safety actions and precautions so that they can be safe and the machine is used properly. There will also be posters to remind students where tools and materials go. This is to ensure that the shop area is tidy and all materials are stored properly where they belong. All machines and resources will be checked periodically to maintain and replace if necessary.
The artifact that I have chosen is my OSHA 10 card. My OSHA 10 card certifies that I know about safety, how to prevent accidents, and how to identify possible hazards when working in the different fields of the industry. I got my OSHA 10 certification through my STS class back in high school, and I can testify that it has helped me to be safe and practice safe habits in my high school technical science class. Through this program, I went through different modules where I learned about different hazards and injuries that can occur in a workplace, as well as how to identify and prevent them. Having this type of certification within my course is going to ensure that my students know how to be safe and keep other students safe. This certification is also going to put my students ahead of others because most jobs require employees to be OSHA certified. This certification teaches students safe occupational habits and safe use of facilities, equipment, and technology. Students will know how to safely store materials and maintain equipment so that they are safe to use. Overall, this certification is going to help students through their STS classes and set them up for the future in the workforce.
