This program of study demonstrates my knowledge of effective program sequencing and articulation. These are the programs of study offered at the school I will be student teaching at. It has a clear pathway of well-defined courses that build upon each other. As students progress through the program, they will develop technical, academic, and employability skills. The introductory courses provide students with foundational knowledge that will prepare them for more specialized skills and in-depth learning in the intermediate and capstone courses. The courses are aligned with standards to meet specific goals, minimize redundancy, and allow for smooth transition form one course to the next. The program of study offers different exit points, catering to diverse student interests and goals. Students in the Intro to STS course can decide to advance to Welding I, Construction 1, and Manufacturing Woods I.
I have a 10-Hour OSHA Certification that I obtained from my Intro to Construction class in high school. This is something that I plan to implement into my own program because this certification is accepted and most likely required by companies in the industry. To obtain the certification, students work through different modules and take an assessment after each one. This certification takes approximately 10 hours to complete so I would set aside a day out of the week for students to complete this certification at the start of the semester. This certification will help prepare students for the workforce by teaching them about safety and how to identify/prevent hazards. This would also prepare them for the 30-Hour OSHA certification in the future.
