Something that I plan to implement into my program is work based learning. For my newer students, these would be things like job-site visits or guest speakers. However, I want my older and more advanced students to have the opportunity to intern with a business within their field of interest. This would likely be done in the summer with me dropping by to see how things are going occasionally. A part of this experience being successful is to have a way to verify and track what the students did and how many hours they worked. I have attached an agreement and work verification form that I created. I want the internship to be meaningful and beneficial for both the students and the business. The student will get training and experience while the business will get a potential future employee.
The Kimmel Grant Project that my group and I worked on is evidence on my understanding of Work-Based Learning. It is a project where my classmates and I planned a one day event at Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard where students toured the facility and learned about some of the processes and history of Kimmel Orchard and Vineyard. The students also learned about the engineering and design project from a guest engineer, which they were then able to apply what they learned through a technical team problem solving competition. The event was carefully planned to provide a safe and supervised environment where students can learn and also have fun. Attached is a packet that each student was given during the technical team problem serving competition.
