My legacy project during student teaching is proof that I can use data to inform and improve a CTE program. For my legacy project, I will be developing a manual/guide on how to start and advise a SkillsUSA chapter. This project was planned collecting data by talking to my cooperating teacher and assessing the needs of the school. The school has a really strong SkillsUSA chapter so creating a manual will help to solidify and prolong the success of the chapter. This manual will assist whoever replaces the teacher at my cooperating schools and will also prepare me for when I will start or take over a chapter myself. I plan for this manual to be online and assessible to anyone who needs it.
I have created a feedback form that I will have my students fill out at the end of the year. I know that within the first couple years of teaching, my program will undergo a lot of change and adaptations. My goal is for my program to improve each year and be better than it was the year before. To know what to do differently, what better way than to ask the students themselves. At the end of the year, I want all my students’ input on how they felt about the class and what could be improved. I want their honest opinions so their responses will be anonymous so they can freely share their thoughts without any fear of consequences. Prior to them filling out the form, I will explain to them that their responses will not be shared with anyone else, and the purpose is for the improvement of the class. I will use the feedback from my students to improve my program for the future.
