My Unit Plan shows that I can effectively integrate a CTSO into a CTE program. The CTSO will be integrated as part of the program and is accessible to all students. I will encourage students to participate is CTSO like SkillsUSA where students can take up leadership positions or compete in competitions. My program will teach students technical, academic, and employability skills that they can further develop and apply within these various competitions. The CTSO also provides students with opportunities to connect with professionals from many different industries.
An artifact that shows I can meet this standard is the Engineering Journal that my fellow ALEC 235 classmates and I created. We were tasked with creating and running a competition at the SkillsUSA state conference. Through this, we were able to learn more about SkillsUSA and what it is/how it works. Becoming a SkillsUSA advisor preparing my students to compete is something that I am interested in doing in the future. Through SkillsUSA, students can choose from a wide variety of competitions to compete in. These competitions are not only limited to Skilled and Technical Science. For example, students can compete in nursing, math, painting, cosmetology, and much more. When students are not busy competing, they can meet and talk to business professionals from different fields. Although SkillsUSA is a student run organization, each school chapter has advisors who assist and prepare the students for competition.
