Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus Came for Sinners
9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”
12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
St. Paul wrote do not yoke yourself with the unbeliever...He saw a problem as Christians mature in their faith...He knew that Jesus came for sinners...Paul saw the new Christian as one needing a Savior and that Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but came to earth to help and assist sinners...
Followers of Jesus know that Eve and Adam disobeyed God and sinned...Believers know they fall short of the glory of God and are sinners...While the unbeliever know less of the Spiritual heart than the simplest of believers...While the unbeliever judges, the believer does his best not to criticize and judge...But the believer knows that there will be times when he falls short of God's Glory and again and again get up and confess to God that he has sinned...The unbeliever's world wisdom and world view sees and knows that there are troubles in the world but does not see the godlessness of man...He may see powerful men and women do evil things and call them evil, but does not relate in to the wickedness of man and to sin...The believer sees this godlessness of man and evil of man and knows that his evil is full of sin...The believer knows that he cannot cause trouble for his enemy or cause trouble for one who causes him trouble, because Jesus tells him turn his cheek to his disagreements and to pray for his enemy...Believers are to be known for the fruits of Jesus, such as love, joy, kindness, faithfulness, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, self-control, forgiveness, mercy, and justice...Believers know that His disciples are the ones who follow his teachings and commands..
The unbeliever may overlook their sins and see themselves as righteous...So the unbeliever has a more difficult time relating to those of mature faith because they cannot see sin as well as the follower of Jesus...The further one gets and matures in faith the beliefs get further apart...Jesus' followers see fellowship as a togetherness of sinners...The sinner sees that he is in need of a Savior and asks God and His Son, our Savior for forgiveness...The unbeliever sees me as if there is no Living God, who has a Son at His Right Hand...So the unbeliever sees me differently than my Christian brother, who knows I need this Savior called Jesus and knows that there is only Salvation in Him...And in regards to salvation, the believer believes that the Truth of Jesus is the Absolute Truth...The believer has given not only the hope of Jesus' resurrection, and is the Truth of the Bible...
