Matthew 8:28-34
The Healing of Two Demon-possessed Men
28When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way. 29"What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"
30Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding. 31The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
32He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water. 33Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men. 34Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
Jesus healed many...He healed all who had faith...Jesus could have healed all...These are three separate, different statements...The Pharisees and teachers of the law who did not believe in Him, could not be healed...These groups thought they were righteous...Jesus knows how we think and tells them that He is the physician...He came for those who are sick...The Pharisee thought he was not like other men-like robbers, evildoers, or tax collectors...The Pharisee somewhat proud, thought he was justified, because he followed the law and was not sick...The sickness man has is sin...Since the Pharisees and teachers of the law have not sinned they are not sick and do not need the Good Doctor...Jesus came for us...We who have sinned...To be healed we must understand and believe in Him...
The two demon possessed men knew that Jesus was the Son of Men...Even though some men and groups could not recognize who Jesus was, demons know and recognize who their LORD and God is...Demons know His power and know if He wants He can overpower them...The demons also tell us about a future time, an appointed time...Evil and the evil ones will continue their work until the End of Age and Jesus returns...
Jesus takes the demons out of the two men and does what the demon asks...They ask to be sent into a nearby herd of pigs...He obliges... The herd of pigs run down a steep bank into the lake and drown...The owners of the herd of pigs and the whole town heard of what He had done...They not only ask, but pleaded to Him to leave...
Jesus shows and we learn Jesus He loves man more than animals...Until Judgment Day, evil will continue...We must pray to the Son of God, for His help against evil...The man who stays down on his knees, begging and pleading for his sinful life, and asking God for mercy, is more justified than those who think they are righteous, he will be healed...Man loves material wealth and money...Many, very many value wealth over their brother and neighbor...When given a choice of being with Jesus or our material wealth (in some cases livestock, money, houses, cars) we choose wealth, and in essence ask Him to leave...We also learn that we will have a future appointed time, when all evil will be gone...It will be our time in Heaven...
