Matthew 11:1-6
Jesus and John the Baptist
1After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in the towns of Galilee.
2When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples 3to ask him, "Are you the one who was to come, or should we expect someone else?"
4Jesus replied, "Go back and report to John what you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor. 6Blessed is the man who does not fall away on account of me."
John the Baptist wanted to make sure that Jesus was the One to come...John the Baptist was one of strong faith...But he was in prison and he was having probably tough times in jail...He sent his disciples to ask Jesus if He was the One...John needed reassurance, just like we all do at times...Jesus reassures us when we are feeling low or ill or when times get rough or tough in life...Trust in Him as John the Baptist did...
Jesus sometimes does not answer our prayers or questions specifically...He may give us an answer to a prayer that we had not thought of...One door may shut and another one may open...
Jesus wants us to figure out for ourselves our faith and beliefs... Note how Jesus did not answer John the Baptist's question with "Yes, I AM the One"...Instead He gave John's disciples the information John would need to reason He is the One...
