Matthew 12:15-21
God's Chosen Servant
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill. 16 He warned them not to tell others about him. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah:
18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen,
the one I love, in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
19 He will not quarrel or cry out;
no one will hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed he will not break,
and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out,
till he has brought justice through to victory.
21 In his name the nations will put their hope.”
Job 42:1-6
Job's Reply to God
1 Then Job replied to the Lord:
2 “I know that you can do all things;
no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
3 You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand,
things too wonderful for me to know.
4 “You said, ‘Listen now, and I will speak;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.’
5 My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you.
6 Therefore I despise myself
and repent in dust and ashes.”
God does not grow tired and weary...And He seems always to be healthy, full of energy and Spirit...But man does grow tired and weary and sometimes unhealthy, especially as we age...And even when we are young when we are suffering and hurting and get bad health, we sometimes cannot do those things we did just a short time ago...So as our energy level lessens, we are not able to work or do those things we used to do...Suffering and hurting can become a significant part of one's life...We can get focused on it, and constantly look to God and His Son for help...
God, one day, appointed One Man a Servant, and He gave this Servant remarkable and many, many abilities...God put His Spirit on this Servant...So this Servant has the ability to help in many different areas and circumstances...As God showed Job, He is more than just keeping us healthy and surviving...God healed Job, but did so much more for Him Spiritually...
When Jesus walked the earth large crowds would follow Him around to listen to what He had to say, and do...He healed those around Him, who had faith in Him...He healed all who were ill...He was able to keep those around Him, it would appear, healthy...In these verses one verse stands out on our level of energy and how we feel...A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out...As our bodies bruise and tire, Jesus is there and caring...Jesus helped those in need...Those who were bruised and old and in need of help with our health, He was there...He healed all who were ill...But He can do much, much more...In His name the nations will put their hope of all things...
