Matthew 11:25-30
Jesus' Yoke is Easy and His Burden is Light
25 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. 26 Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.
27 “All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
There is something about Jesus that makes Him very much unique...Something that I doubt our vocabulary never quite can complete Him in an article or a book or a set of books...There is something when He is written about that we cannot put our finger on, because He is so great and is so much like His Father...The right words are just not there in any language, because He is unique beyond the words of earth in trying to describe Him to others (and in trying to learn more about Him)...
I have written that He has this Divine Charisma that attracts people to Him...And I do believe that...This Divine Charisma makes Him different from other men...I find great comfort that He is indeed unique from me and from others...He is Someone that will help us to God, help us to Heaven, and help us to Eternity...
I wonder, if any or all the Disciples, each day they were with Him, constantly saying this about their Teacher, "Is He going to do something grand and something great today?"...I wonder if Nicodemus or someone like Nicodemus, or any of His followers knew that something was going to happen in His Lifetime that would change the world?...And change the world forever...I think this is the type of impression He had on many people and His followers...And I think we forget about this sometimes as we read through the gospels...
But we also know that sometimes people follow people who are laughing, joking, and happy...I also find comfort that He was not always laughing, joking, and happy...We are not told that Jesus had these characteristics in the four gospels, or at least these characteristics are written about in the Bible...Normally, people do not want to follow people who are negative and bring them or others down...He was not a negative Person...I am really not sure how happy He ever was on earth...He may have been constantly looking around and saw that our sin and our sinful nature was literally everywhere...Yet, I picture Him content, full of peace, and a very positive Man as He taught in His ministry, and we listened...
Jesus knows the sinful nature of man better than anyone so He may have felt this all around Him...Yet His Words and the vocabulary used in the gospel are used in a such a way, we feel good about Him -as He taught, healed, and forgave others...His heart understands grief...And maybe He feels this very weakness in us, that fails to let us walk away from our temptations, as He could...He talked and He taught like He did have this Authority around Him...And from His Authority the Father is revealed in His Son...
And I believe, Jesus was more serious than He was happy...I am not sure one would describe being around Him as this: "I am happy to be around Him and His personality."...I might believe people would say "I am amazed to be around Him, listening to Him and seeing all that He can do...I've never seen anything like this and I certainly have never heard anything like Him before."...I do believe He was always teaching, and His listeners and those that believed in Him were always learning...And I believe He had this Joy about Him, that made people want to follow Him...And I believe this Joy is a contentment a security that comes from His Divine Charisma...He changes lives, because His yoke is easy and His burden is light when we are with Him...
I believe that Jesus being completely unselfish, completely humble, completely merciful, and completely forgiving came through to others, and they could feel these things from Him...No matter who you were or who you are, we can come to Him and He can give you rest...And through all these things, people wanted to be around Him and learn from Him and learn more about Him...
