Static Electricity

WHAT IT IS

Static Electricity is an electric charge most commonly caused by the transfer of electrons or by friction, the transfer of surface materials.

Use balloons to make pieces of tissue paper float and stick through static electricity.

Tissue paper and balloons

1. Cut out small pieces of tissue paper

2. Place the pieces of tissue paper on a flat surface

3. Blow up the balloons and tie them

4. Rub the balloons against your head or against your shirt to add a static charge

5. Bring the balloon near the tissue paper, and the tissue paper will "float" and stick to the balloon
