- modeling clay
- baking powder
- vinegar
- eye dropper
Procedure:

- Using the modeling clay make a cone. Then make a depression in the top with your thumb or forefinger. This is your volcano.
- Put a small pile of baking power in the hole.
- Use the eye dropper to drip vinegar into the hole with the baking powder in it.

EXPLANATION:
The "lava" flows out of the volcano!! This is a fairy quick chemical reaction - -actually two chemical reactions happen! First, the vinegar (acetic acid) reacts with the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to form sodium acetate and carbonic acid. This is a DOUBLE DISPLACEMENT REACTION because 2 things are combined to yield 2 different things. Second, the carbonic acid is unstable and immediately separates into carbon dioxide and water. This is a DECOMPOSITION REACTION because the one thing splits into 2 things.
