- The Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) will be used for all nonfiction, including reference materials. We use three places behind the decimal and will segment the decimal part of a Dewey number in standard places, usually indicated by an apostrophe (') or backslash (/). If needed go to a fourth place or in an extreme case to a fifth. However, using just two places is preferable to four or five.
- All nonfiction book call number stickers on the spine of the book will display the DDC call number followed by the first three letters of the author’s or subject’s (for biographies) last name.
- For fiction materials, the call number will begin “F” followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name.
- A sticker that indicates “F” and the first three letters of the author’s last name will be placed on the spine of the book.
- For Easy materials, the call number will begin “E” followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name.
- A sticker that indicates “E” and the first three letters of the author’s last name will be placed on the spine of the book.
- For Beginning Chapter materials, the call number will begin “BC” followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name.
- A sticker that indicates “BC” and the first three letters of the author’s last name will be placed on the spine of the book.
- For Beginning Reader materials, the call number will begin “BR” followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name.
- A sticker that indicates “BR” and the first three letters of the author’s last name will be placed on the spine of the book.
- All paperbacks in these genres will be cataloged exactly like hardback books.
