Week 7

Something like using Augmented Reality for furniture shopping really puts the power of shopping back into the shopper’s hands. As we look at Augmented Reality’s ability to enhance a user’s experience it really takes that notion to another level when we look at furniture shopping. As shown in the picture in this web page, multiple apps like houzz and ikea both bring the ability to not only show you great pieces to your collection of furniture but also gives you the ability to try it out as if its in the said room as we speak. Now this idea of being able to physically picture said item of purchase in your passion has always been the advantage of actual physical store fronts and such.

Things like this do have a lot of unintended consequences thoes of the likes of physical shops where people would go and interact with not only the item but also the people and such making it almost a social gathering to things like talking to people. What this type of consequences looks like is people who are already deeply imbedded into isolation from being on social media and almost having zero human interaction into the real world. Because of this people are suffering mentally feeling like they don’t really connect to people on the level they should be. Resulting in death and/or acts of aggression. Although this technology gives us a new form of freedom and control of product and feedback of product behavior.

This technology can even go into places like buying a car something that hasn’t much advancement in recent years, gives people the ability and opportunity to find their dream car. They can see how the car looks on their driveway as well as look at the interior and watch its reviews to determine if it’s a worth while investment. They can also get the opinions and feedback from social media as what their friends think about the car as well as there love for there new car. A purchase that usually would weight down and heavy on everyone now turns into a fun and meaning full search for a perfect car and to be the envy of all your friends.

This all started with furniture and as you can see this expansion of Augmented Reality can have a long lasting and effective interaction to our daily lives. As we continuously pursue ways and venues to easy buyer’s stress and alleviate their struggles, we must also keep in mind the lasting effects to society and the economy harm that could be done. To not only their pocketbooks by closing out small businesses due to lack of customer appearance and interaction. But also, there mental health isolating them more and more to feel lonelier and cause them to act violently to themselves or god forbid to others. Limitation is key to the advancement of the future but where does that line end, embarks the bigger question.
